The World of Fungi - Tuesday, October 17
When most people hear that term, several images come to mind. Some people shudder and picture mold encroaching on their walls and ceilings. Others curse the mildews that rot their vegetables and roses. Some people have a happier view of fungi, enjoying delicious mushrooms on their dinner plates. The world of fungi includes all of these things, and more! Come learn about the fascinating world of molds, mildews, and mushrooms, including:

Esperanto - Thursday, November 16
Esperanto is described as “…a language, but not of any country or ethnic group: It is a neutral international language.” The basic rules and words of Esperanto were first proposed by L.L. Zamenhof at the end of the nineteenth century. Proponents have a goal to introduce Esperanto as THE International language. It has caught on only in small pockets around the world. Learn Esperanto basics and why some see a need for a “world language”.

Painting with the Masters - Acrylic canvas panel painting
Now is the time to fulfill that wish of painting your very own canvas. Join this basic acrylic painting class and create your own ready to sign, frame and hang originals. We will study the masters for composition and color information. Students of all abilities are welcome in this class; those who have painted before and newcomers. Basic drawing experience helpful.

Hypnosis for Natural Weight Loss and Management
This course is for people who have discovered that diets don’t work and are now choosing to take charge of their weight and health situation. Learn how to change yourself by way of a positive mind-set and by changing your lifestyle to include healthy, nutritious eating habits as well as regular exercise. You will be taught the techniques of imagination training, stress management and self-hypnosis for personal empowerment. Diversity Circles
Diversity Circles are groups of 8-12 people meeting for 2 hours per week over a period of 4-5 weeks, during which time two trained facilitators lead each group in discussion about race, ethnicity and culture. Discussion is respectful of all views, beliefs, attitudes and cultures, intended to increase understanding, stimulate ideas and bring people together to identify current or future concerns and brainstorm solutions to those issues. Coordinated by UW-Manitowoc and UW-Extension, Diversity Circles are a tool to build and strengthen our dynamic and diverse community via education, relationship-building and community-driven initiatives.

Buying a Digital Camera
This workshop will help you understand the common features in digital cameras, and how additional features work so you can decide what features you need for your personal use. We will have examples of different models in different price ranges to help you be an informed consumer when heading to the camera store.

Getting started with your digital camera
Use your camera, your software package and our computer lab to learn how to view the pictures you have taken. Learn to delete the photos you took that didn’t turn out and become more familiar with your camera. Participants need to bring their camera with pictures they have taken and their software package to this workshop. Instructor will present general directions and provide individual help in viewing photos. Limited to 15 participants.

STAGE WORKS - Youth Theater Program
This UW-Manitowoc program is dedicated to celebrating theatre by providing opportunities for all children to learn about the varying components of creative play and play production. Participants will explore, discover and create, all in a nurturing educational format designed to enhance creativity, confidence and communication.
The Stage Works Youth Theater Program is a multi-tiered program with opportunities to develop skills from the ground up and opportunities to “get your feet wet” in the various aspects of theatre. Here is a simplified outline of the entire program.
Program Requirements: Theatre Toolbox and What’s in a Script?
Acting 101 (Classes will begin Winter 2007)
Concepts to be covered include: Developing good habits from creative play, sensory awareness, body awareness, character development, and ensemble concept.
Program Options (Workshops will begin Winter 2007)

Theater Toolbox
Purpose is to begin to develop a common vocabulary for all participants. Concepts include stage direction and movement, being comfortable on stage and off stage and to provide an opportunity for students to define areas of personal interest.

What’s in a Script?
Purpose is to become aware of basic components of a script and discuss a variety of literary terms and concepts. Students will use age appropriate scripts to learn how to develop characters and tell the story in a play.

Really Rosie Children’s Musical Performance
Really Rosie is a playful depiction of a child's day. Rosie is no ordinary child, her vivid imagination entertains everyone around her, even if they do not want to be involved. Her adventure for the day includes putting on her life story for a movie producer. Rosie's closest friends either volunteer or are conned into auditioning and taking part in her adventure. Really Rosie has a warm charm that you can't help but enjoy!
Performances dates are February 3 and 4, 2007 -- Auditions are by invitation to students who have attended Stage Works programs and will be November 11, 2006
Wizard of Oz Movie Sing-a-long - A family friendly event
Follow the yellow brick road and come to the UW Theater to enjoy the classic movie The Wizard of Oz in the University Theater. Costumes are encouraged! Games and activities for children ages 5-13 will be held before the movie showing.

Participants will construct a sample newsletter using the common elements found in a newsletter or flyer. Participants should have a basic working knowledge of MS Word and will leave with a newsletter template they have created.

SAT/ACT Preparation Part 1 and Part 2 (offered completely online!)
So you’ve decided you’re going to college. Now you just need to take the entrance exams! The Part 1 course is designed to prepare you for the reading, English and science sections of the ACT and the critical reading and writing sections of the new SAT 2005. The Part 2 course will prepare you for the math questions on both the ACT and the SAT. Review arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics. We will practice techniques and approaches using similar exam questions and fully explain and interpret the correct and incorrect answers. What do most employers look for in an employee?It’s the ability to communicate effectively with others.
Instructor-led online courses begin on the second Monday of their respective months and run for six weeks, offering a minimum of six lessons per course.
